Eczema

Eczema, also known as atopic dermatitis, is a chronic inflammatory skin condition characterized by dryness, itching, redness, and recurrent flares that can affect patients of all ages. Genetics, medications, dry environments and sensitive skin are contributing factors for eczema. Management focuses on restoring the skin barrier and controlling inflammation through regular use of moisturizers, gentle skin care, and prescription therapies such as topical corticosteroids, calcineurin inhibitors, and newer nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory agents. In moderate to severe cases, phototherapy or systemic treatments, including biologic medications, may be used to reduce flares, improve symptoms, and enhance overall quality of life.
